Mike Turner

Global Cybersecurity COO, Capgemini

Mike joined the Army straight from school and was commissioned into the Royal Engineers after initial soldier training and then passing out from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Royal School of Military Engineering.

He served on operations and on training deployments in various areas across the globe including the Middle East, Balkans, Far East, Central America, Falkland Islands and five tours in Northern Ireland at the height of The Troubles.  Mike held a number of command appointments at Troop and Squadron Command levels and also worked as a Staff Officer in Headquarters 16 Air Assault Brigade and within the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Mike’s final role before retiring from the military was within the Special Projects department of the Ministry of Defence where he worked in the Special Forces and Counter Terrorism Forces areas.  Mike went on to work for the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6).  Away from public service Mike spent time at Detica PLC (now BAESys AI) running part of their Defence Business before joining Capgemini in November 2008.

At Capgemini Mike is currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Capgemini’s Global Cybersecurity Practice as well as Head of Cybersecurity Services in the UK Region.  Over the last two years the Group’s cybersecurity capabilities have been transformed into a global practice with a services portfolio which is the envy of many competitors.  Prior to this Mike held roles as the Head of Apps UK Cybersecurity and Chief Security Officer for the HMRC Account.

A very late starter in terms of academics, Mike has a BEng (Hons) in Electronic Systems Engineering, a MSc in the Design of Information Systems, and a MA in International Politics & Defence Studies awarded by Kings College, London.
